The Why Behind the Journal

When Mik was 17 years old a mentor of hers encouraged her to stop spending so much time on creating love stories in her head about her future husband she would one day marry. Instead, she encouraged Mik to write specific prayers and desires to the man she one day would marry. She started the journal and spent the next four years pouring her heart out on the pages that made up what she would call, “Her Future Husband Journal.” She gave her journal to her husband, Nolan, as a special gift before she walked down the aisle on her wedding day. Now several years later, Mik + Tay created this Husband Prayer Journal for women to use as a tool to pray over their relationships, engagements and marriages. Mik + Tay’s desire is for you to spend intentional time in communion with Christ as your yearn for a deeper relationship with your man. This booklet walks you through how to use this journal depending on your season of life.

To the Single Woman using the Journal

What a special season you are in, sister! You may not be where you expected to be right now, but the Lord works so much in the lives of single women. We created this journal as a prompt for you to begin praying over your future husband. But we also want you to be careful with guarding your heart. This journal is not a wish list of things to happen or a magic genie, but simply a guide to praying over something your heart desires. Remember, a relationship with the Lord and prayer does not guarantee that marriage will be in your future. But we believe praying over your heart’s desires can build intimacy and intentionality with the Lord.

Recommendations:

  • Don’t use the journal daily

  • Don’t write to a name in the journal until you are engaged.

  • Date your pages, so you can look back on specific seasons of the Lord’s faithfulness.

  • Be intentional with studying the Word and what the Bible says about marriage.

To the Woman in a Relationship Using the Journal

Dating can be such a sweet season as you get to know a man who could potentially be the man you spend the rest of your life with. We encourage you to use this journal as a prompt for your future husband and not your current boyfriend. Although this may be the man you marry, guarding your heart in this way can protect you from future heartbreak. As you go through the journal, look over the qualities of a man listed at the top of the pages. If you don’t see those in your relationship or your man seeking those qualities in his life, we strongly encourage you to pray if this is the man God has for you to be with for the rest of your life.

Recommendations:

  • Don’t journal about your relationship, keep it prayer centered.

  • Don’t write to a name in the journal until you are engaged.

  • Date your pages, so you can look back on specific seasons of the Lord’s faithfulness.

  • Be intentional with studying the Word and what the Bible says about marriage.

Keep in mind during that you are not married yet, but these prayer prompts are a great foundation to build your marriage on. What better way to start a marriage than in prayer.

  • Give this journal as a gift on your wedding day to your husband.

To the Married Women Using the Journal

When we began prepping for these journals, we were reminded that the most important thing you could do for your marriage is PRAY. Whether you have been married for 5 months, 5 years, or 50 years prayer is foundational and we could not say that enough. No matter what season of life you are in, we want you to be able to collect prayers and give them to your husband. What greater gift is there to show love? Prayer can transform our hearts, lives, and marriages. The journal has a prompt section on motherhood. For women, we know this can be a sensitive subject. Keep in mind, God has not promised motherhood to each of us. But we believe prayer is so important in asking God all the desires of our heart.

Recommendations:

  • Pray often.

  • Be intentional with studying the Word and what the Bible says about marriage.

  • Give this journal as a gift on an anniversary, holiday or birthday.
